Guest Post: A Message of Hope, from Hope

From one of my students, called Hope…

I can’t find it in me to understand

How 2 years on, your head’s still in the sand.

Is it fear that keeps the majority silent?

It must be an easier life to just be compliant.

Will you still bite your tongue when they push more and more?

If your friends and your family are dragged from their doors?

Did we learn nothing from history,

Learn nothing at school?

Algebra, Pythagoras’ theorem - no use at all!

Why don’t they teach us to grow our own food?

How to heal, to meditate and manage our moods?

The worst thing they did was weaponise love,

Fooled us to think we’d kill Nan with a hug.

Families left to rot and friendships to die,

All because we don’t see eye-to-eye.

Enough with the division, the fear and the lies.

We switch off the news, carry on with our lives.

We know what is coming and what they have planned,

They hold humanity in the palm of their hand.

What a sad world to live in, such misery and plight,

But into the darkness shines a light,

From those with eyes that are willing to see

The ugly truth, unpalatable it may be.

Are we spiritual? Psychic? Deluded or crazy?

As time marches on it gets even more hazy.

The truth’s been forbidden, an uncomfortable fact,

The world’s upside down; they swear white is black.

They might win this war and have us reduced

To walking QR codes (though I’d rather a noose).

But they can’t take my spirit, my knowledge and love,

I’m reminded of this as I gaze up above.

You can ignore me, abuse me, ridicule me and more,

I still hope that healing will come to your door,

To lessen your fears and help you to see

We’re not all that different, you and me…

You’re driven by love, I am as well.

You’re scared of dying – I can’t stand this hell

Of a life not worth living, it’s taking its toll,

I feel my light dim as I sink deep in this hole.

You don’t want to lose people, well neither do I,

But time will tell if you’ve been sold a lie.

In the meantime we live and get on with our lives,

Babies are born, more people die.

And we sing and we laugh, we hope and we pray,

Small acts of defiance keep the shadows at bay.

My soul chose to come here to love and to serve,

So I don’t understand how you have the nerve

To label me selfish, stupid and God knows what else.

The names you call me are a projection of yourself.

Just do good and be kind and it will come back to you,

We have the chance now to build something new.

Where communities care and look out for each other,

Where people are kind and respect one another.

And years from now, when my soul leaves this plane,

My one sincere wish is to not come here again.

I tried hard, learned my lessons, did my best, you’ll agree,

But my soul yearns to go back to where it can truly be free.
