Numerology has never been more popular, but…
When I started out in this field (late 1980’s) numerology was the most neglected of all the ‘spiritual sciences’. In those days runes and astrology were popular, so was the Tarot, but numerology less so. Fast forward to our content hungry world today and awareness of numerology bubbles up into public awareness every now and then. Google ‘daily mail numerology’ and you will see. Of course this has always been so. Bruce Gyngell, the maverick boss of TV-AM turned the station around in the mid 80’s using numerology, and in the early noughties, journalist and author Caitlin Moran wrote about her amazement when she discovered she was a 22 and how it helped her make sense of her life.
So when I was alerted to a new article in the Daily Mail about numerology I was interested, but not surprised, nor hopeful, my hopes receding even further when I saw that it was a piece by regular Daily Mail journalist Liz Jones.
Liz Jones is without question one of the reasons why the Daily Mail is held in such contempt by so many people. The stories of her life, as she tells them online, are scarcely believable, and her constant inability to draw any useful lessons from the astonishing things which happen to her is legendary. Do a quick Google search for her stories and you will see what I mean.
Anyway, the article in question here (paywalled unfortunately) does reveal her full name and date of birth, followed by snippets of a numerology analysis she received from Sonia Ducie. I will spare you my full thoughts about her. Suffice to say if you can read the article and match it up against what you know about numerology you’ll be less than impressed. (If you can’t access the paywall then there is a link to the article in the Telegram chat today, in a post from Jane. ‘Instant view’ her post and you should be able to read it).
So, Liz Jones, real name ELIZABETH ANN JONES, was born on 5th September 1958. This gives us the following numbers:
Expression 9
Soul Urge 14/5
Missing Numbers 4 and 7
Superpower 5
Destiny / Life Path 19/1
Approach 5
Ultimate Goal 14/5
Link 33/6
As the great philosopher KT Tunstall once said, “Suddenly I See!” These numbers explained everything about her life, as documented by herself in her articles. But the reading given to her by Sonia Ducie does not get anywhere near to a real analysis or understanding of the way that she is. But maybe that is ok, because with numbers like those how much truth and honesty could she really take?
The urge for freedom, excitement and independence (1 and 5’s) would pull hard against the need for love, stability and connection (6), with the Karmic Debts 19/1 and 14/5 (twice) clashing violently with the fatalistic force of the Link 33. This is some who is , deep down, a very old and very wise soul (33) but who is wrapped up and imprisoned almost entirely in ego, Her unresolved 19/1 and 14/5 making her impatient, selfish, flighty, thrill seeking, inconsistent, addictive, intemperate, untrustworthy and intolerant. But this is the point – she is living out those contradictions, conflicts and absurdities for all to see, and she probably could not do any other.
One of the most important lessons of our overall work is the principle of uniqueness, which you might instead call weirdness. People are far stranger than most of us can possibly imagine and Liz Jones is living proof of this. By her own account hers is an impossible roller-coaster of a life, led by someone who is incredibly self-destructive, unconscious and almost tragic, shaped by forces she has no understanding of or control over. And there are far more people like this knocking around than we would like to admit.
So would Liz Jones have done better coming to me, or to one of us? Not necessarily, because as another great spiritual teacher, Jack Nicholson, once said, when it comes to someone with numbers like these it might be a case that “you can’t handle the truth”. People can only learn what they are ready for. And if you show them, before they are ready, they will run a mile.
Could Sonia Ducie have done a better job with her? It’s different strokes for different folks, but I have never gotten along with her because I just don’t think she knows that much. Who am I to judge this? Well that’s my view, but I also think that maybe this is ok, for some people anyway.
What this Daily Mail article does do of course is raise the profile of numerology once more. Numerology is the golden secret which so many mystics and psychics, astrologers and readers use but won’t admit to. It is enormously powerful when done properly. Any of us could have done a better job than Sonia Ducie here, but sometimes that’s not what is required. People can only take what they are ready for, and sometimes a spoonful of sugar does help the medicine go down. Full realisation of the truth of something is very hard for some people, but a few gentle insights is sometimes all that is needed. I hope that Liz Jones and the many similarly challenged people like her have the awareness to see that one reading is never enough.
